Tatiana Bužeková

SENIOR RESEARCHER

In the context of the DEAGENCY project, I am exploring religious and spiritual scene in Slovakia in relation to the dead as well as its changes after the political transformation that took place in the 1990s. I focus on individuals situated in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. 

I am an associate professor at the Department of Archaeology and Cultural Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava. I hold a master’s degree in mathematics from the Moscow State University, a master’s degree in religious studies from the Comenius University in Bratislava, and a PhD degree in ethnology from the Comenius University in Bratislava. I worked at the Institute of Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and at the Institute of Social Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University in Bratislava. My research interest includes alternative spirituality, vernacular religion, narratives, collective memory, cultural expression of emotions, gender, and morality. I conducted long-term ethnographic research on folk narratives in Slovak countryside and fieldwork study on alternative spirituality in Bratislava. In my research I apply the theoretical approaches of symbolic anthropology and cognitive anthropology. I teach courses on theory and methodology, religion and magic, medical anthropology, folklore, and gender.
